One of the events we always try to help out with, is the annual “Walk The Wight” festival, that takes place to raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. This year we were fortunate to have another beautiful day for our very early start to help marshal the event from Bembridge, helping direct traffic to the event, and with the parking. After an early start and a few hours helping out, we then head off for a much deserved breakfast in Ryde. Marshalling is one of the regular events we do, in order to help raise money for good causes. It is always great fun, working with fellow club members, and members of the public and this year was no exception, with everyone in great spirits at this wonderful event.

Round Table clubs, take part each year in what is termed a Euromeeting. Same districts, located in a range of countries take turns to host the event, this year, for our club, this was Round Table 16, Solothurn. Round Table Euromeetings are all about meeting like minded Round Table club members in different European clubs, and extending our friendship overseas. Since different countries host the event each year, it is a wonderful experience to also meet those new friends at the next year’s events. Because a Euromeeting for any one club is limited to international clubs of the same district number, the amount of attendees are small enough to keep things small and friendly. This year, we were treated to a wonderful weekend, hosted in Switzerland, in the charming old town of Solothurn. A series of events were laid on for us over three three days, with the added good fortune of fantastic weather. Five representatives from Ryde Round Table attended Solothurn, flying out on Friday morning and arriving in Solothurn from Zurich by train (having flown from Gatwick that morning.) A choice of accommodation was offered, ranging from Hotel, to home hosting (ideal for married couples attending) but we opted for hostel accommodation, which happened to be a great choice. Located alongside the river Aar. With beautiful views of the river from the room (seen in our gallery) the modern hostel, was perfectly situated a mere stroll from bars and restaurants.
From the point of arrival, we were greeted with beer (much welcomed after our long journey) and warm hospitality. An evening of music, food and drink was arranged, followed by a choice of activities the following day (shopping, a river trip or Swiss sports) and a Gala black tie dinner on the Saturday evening, with live music (again plenty of beer) and dinner. Each member of the various Round Table clubs were as welcoming as any UK member, and the chance to make new friends overseas, shows what Round Table is all about. Members of Solothurn round table, who hosted this year’s Euromeeting put in a phenomenal amount of time to organise the event, and their members looked after visiting clubs, (our own guide Chris, was on hand to answer any questions and show us around – even managing to find us somewhere to eat at 3.30am on the Saturday morning, following our night out.

We are already very much looking forward to next year’s Euromeeting hosted by our friends in Holland, Round Table 16, Den Helder.

Coming up June 21st 2011, is a very popular event held in Hulverstone, where we take part in an evening of Clay Pigeon shooting. Starting at 6pm, we will be shooting against an amazing backdrop of beautiful countryside, with a fantastic view out across the English Channel. A really great evening of Clay Pigeon Shooting, followed by a few beers at a local pub to finish the evening off. Last year we were fortunate to have some fantastic weather, making the evening a great success. As one of Ryde Round Table’s more recent members, I was fortunate enough to go along to take part last year, as my first experience of Round Table, at which current members introduced themselves, and welcomed me into the group for what was a thoroughly enjoyable evening as a guest. This is one of the best meetings, and one surely not to be missed. Any guys aged 18-45 interested in coming along to this or any other of our meetings, and to find out more about Ryde Round Table, should email us at ryderoundtable@gmail.com or call Dave Redstone on 07958 915532 for more details.

To follow on from our new website, we now have a Twitter account. @RydeRoundTable We have been connecting up to other Round Table members, which is a great way of sourcing inspiration for new events, along with conversing with other members, both in the UK and abroad. We will also be posting to twitter our upcoming events, and event reminders for existing members, great information for those already involved, or for anyone looking to become involved with the organisation. Round Table is all about meeting up, having fun, and doing some good at the same time. We meet regularly (usually twice a month) in the evenings, for food, a few drinks and to take part in a variety of activities. The atmosphere is friendly, and welcoming and we welcome any guys 18 – 45 years to take part in what is probably one of the best social clubs there is.

We have been connecting up to other Round Table members, which is a great way of sourcing inspiration for new events, along with conversing with other members, both in the UK and abroad. We will also be posting to twitter our upcoming events, and event reminders for existing members, great information for those already involved, or for anyone looking to become involved with the organisation. Round Table is all about meeting up, having fun, and doing some good at the same time.
Well, we are pleased to be up and running with a brand new website dedicated to Ryde Round Table (Area 16) The last few weeks have seen the older original website revised into something a little more upto date. The guys as SorbetMedia have been working hard to put together something a little more up-to-date, that will provide us with a dedicated area to upload new images, discuss events, and generally post information about our Table and Round Table in general. We have added in our Calendar to show some of the events we have coming up, and hope this proves pretty useful for current members, honorary members and prospective members. We are also keen to hear from anyone interested in joining, so please contact us at ryderoundtable@gmail.com for any further information. And don’t forget to follow us on twitter or facebook where we will also be posting regular updates.
